After six years of phenomenal growth and numerous awards, we are backed by a joint venture partnership between Legal & General PLC and NatWest Group Pension Trustee Limited. We are on course to significantly transform the later living experience in the UK with a commitment to expand our portfolio to 34 retirement villages, which equates to around 5,000 age-appropriate homes for retirees.   

 

The Associate Legal Counsel will be responsible for supporting the Legal Counsel on all legal matters, to enable the business to expand and meet its ambitious growth plans. You will cover the acquisition of sites, legal contracts, funding of the group and the legal entity structuring to facilitate potential additional third-party investment.

The Role: 

  • Supporting the Legal Counsel in providing legal advice and transactional support across the Group in all areas including retirement living, real estate, financial and corporate transactions  
  • Ensuring a proper account is taken of material legal risks and the Group’s position is mitigated and protected 
  • Safeguarding compliance with relevant legislation and regulation 
  • Advising notes to assist General Counsel in advising the board  
  • Working collaboratively with relevant internal stakeholders including company secretarial, finance/accounting, tax, risk and board support  
  • Providing legal support in setting up sites for new villages  
  • Advising the Development team on title issues and reviewing title reports 
  • Assisting plot sales solicitors with legal sales issues 
  • Reviewing and amending general contracts  
  • Assisting Village Managers with legal queries  
  • Keeping abreast of legal developments in the field of real estate, and corporate. 

 

Key Requirements:  

  • Proven experience working as an Associate Legal Counsel, Associate Solicitor or Legal Executive (ideally 2-4 years PQE)  
  • England & Wales qualified solicitor (or a solicitor or attorney qualified in another jurisdiction) 
  • Excellent legal drafting skills: able to provide clear, concise and commercially relevant solutions, explaining/advising succinctly on difficult and complex areas. 
  • Good IT; at ease with electronic time recording and case management systems 
  • Inquisitive and testing with the ability to ask the right questions in the correct circumstances.
